The best time to elope in Tennessee really depends on your preferences and what activities you want to do. Tennessee has a more mild climate than other states so there is no bad time to elope here! Some months are better for hiking or swimming and others are great for fall foliage, wildflowers, snow and privacy.
Being in the South, Tennessee tends to have more mild winters than some other states but still has all 4 seasons! People don’t realize that it does get cold in Tennessee for a brief period of time in the winter and even gets ice and snow if you want a winter wonderland elopement! It warms up faster here with temperatures beginning to rise in March and springtime blooms happening in early April! Summers can be hot and humid which makes waterfalls that much more refreshing and fall is filled with the most beautiful foliage!
So if you are wondering what time of year fits your elopement best, you’ve come to the right place! I’m here to let you know what each season in Tennessee looks like depending on the location to help you start planning your dream elopement day!
(here’s a tip: my favorite months for Tennessee elopements are May & October!)
If you want to know the best time of year for your Tennessee elopement…. keep reading!
You have so many options based on your preferences. The fall foliage is beautiful in mid-late October and early November. Springtime is great when all the trees and wildflowers are in bloom. Summer has lush green forests that offer lots of privacy. If you are a winter person, higher elevations can have the perfect snowy backdrop for your wedding or having some bare trees can help get incredible views. Let’s break this down a little more for you:
Springtime
Springtime in Tennessee is one of my very favorite times. Things are beginning to turn green, the trees and flowers are blooming and it hasn’t become melt-your-face-off hot yet. Spring is a great time to elope in TN! The trails can be busier on those warmer weekends so a weekday elopement is best for more privacy. Waterfalls tend to be running more due to rainfall and since it is less humid, there tends to be less pop up storms than in the summertime. Early March is when some daffodils begin blooming and mid March is when you see lots of daffodils, tulips and cherry blossoms. This continues into early April when the trees start blooming and late April into May is when you will really start getting lots of green come to life again! Late May and into early June is when you see the popular rhododendrons blooming!
Summertime
Summer is beautiful in TN in all the lush greens. It’s easy to have more privacy due to all the trees being fully bloomed. The one downfall is that it can be HOT with lots of pop up rain and storms. The good news is that the trails might be a little less crowded due to the heat and unpredictable weather. It also tends to be cooler at higher elevations so it’s perfect for a mountain elopement. The other upside is that it’s a great time for a water themed elopement! The hot weather doesn’t feel so bad at the base of a waterfall, lake, or out on the water! There is always something blooming throughout the summer and it’s great for having beautiful wildflowers as a backdrop for your big day.
Fall
Fall is beautiful up in the Smoky Mountains and all of the TN mountains. With mountain overlooks you can see the leaves changing beautiful colors for miles. The weather has also cooled off a bit and it tends to be drier making it the perfect time for an elopement. The trails can be much busier this time of year due to everyone wanting to see the fall foliage so a weekday sunrise or sunset elopement is highly recommended. Colors start changing earlier at higher elevations and trickles down from there. It is very weather dependent and varies from year to year so it is hard to say when the foliage will peak. However, typically mid October into early November is prime time for those wanting beautiful fall colors in their elopement.
Winter
One of the great things about Tennessee is that winters can be more mild than other US locations! Depending on the location, you can have a milder elopement that is more secluded due to the time of year or have a winter wonderland wedding with some cold weather and maybe even snow at higher elevation mountains! Waterfalls may even freeze leaving beautiful icicles for your elopement backdrop! The hiking trails and locations tend to be less populated making it a great time to have a more intimate and private elopement!
